EIG Bought By Private Equity Firm

One of the largest players in online hosting, and the owner of brands like BlueHost, HostGator, and Constant Contact, Endurance International Group (EIG) will be sold to private equity firm Clearlake Capital Group L.P. This is a cash deal valued at $3 billion, including debt.

EIG has one of the worst reputations amongst WordPress enthusiasts, due to their practice of buying decent hosts, consolidating them into the same infrastructure (so if one hosting provider goes down, it often results in all EIG hosting providers being down) and aligning prices between companies so that there is little differentiation between hosting companies other than brand name and logos.
